MARIA DUARTE recommends a heart-wrenching, animated documentary about an Afghan refugee’s flight to Denmark, where he comes to terms with his past, and himself

Flee (15)
Directed by Jonas Poher Rasmussen

NOMINATED for three Academy Awards, this compelling documentary uses animation to push boundaries and portray the refugee experience in a vivid and unique way while asking the question: what does home mean to you?

It is explored through the extraordinary story of 36-year-old high-achieving academic Amin Nawabi (a pseudonym), who, on the verge of marrying his long-term boyfriend Casper, finally feels compelled to reveal his hidden past and the painful secret he has been keeping for the past 20 years while leading a successful life in Denmark.
