Former Labour comms director to head prison reform campaign group

A FORMER Labour communications director is to become the chairman of campaigning charity the Prison Reform Trust (PRT).

Nick Stace worked as director of strategic communications in the office of Gordon Brown when he was prime minister.

Other posts held previously by Mr Stace include chief executive of consumer organisation Which?

PRT chief executive Pia Sinha said: “This has been a tumultuous year for the prison and probation service.

“With a general election looming and PRT poised to launch a new strategic plan, Nick joins us at a critical time.

“Nick’s deep understanding of the sector, combined with his track record of excellence, makes him a formidable new chair for PRT.”

The PRT campaigns for “a just, humane and effective prison system,” giving prisoners a voice.

England and Wales have the highest levels of people in prison per population of any west European country.

Mr Stace will take up his position in December.
