Hospital staff strike over nearly £2m in missing payments

HUNDREDS of hospital workers went on strike today over an estimated £1.8 million in missing payments.

Some 600 cleaners, porters and domestic staff have lost about £3,000 each over 2023-24, GMB regional rep Helen O’Connor said.

Speaking at the rally outside the Princess Royal Hospital in Kent, she said their outsourcing giant employer ISS has failed to honour an agreed 12 per cent pay rise and £1,600 lump sum payment.

She added: “The way ISS and the NHS trust have treated these workers is disgraceful.

“Delayed pay rises and a lack of respect are completely unacceptable to workers who keep us all safe on a daily basis.

“If we want Princess Royal Hospital to remain a safe environment, these workers need to be paid their dues.

“GMB members don’t want to go on strike, but if they aren’t heard they will show ISS and the trust their collective power.”

The NHS Trust and ISS were contacted for comment.
