London Underground workers commemorate fourth anniversary of Belly Mujinga's death

LONDON Underground workers have commemorated the fourth anniversary of the death of Tube worker Belly Mujinga, who died from Covid-19 after being spat at by a customer.

Members of her union TSSA laid a wreath at Victoria station where she worked.

Ms Mujinga, 47, was among more than 100 London transport workers who died from coronavirus while keeping services going during the pandemic.

She had reported being spat and coughed at at work and died on April 5, 20, leaving her husband and young daughter.

TSSA general secretary Maryam Eslamdoust said: “Today we remember Belly Mujinga, a much-loved mother, friend, and trade union member.

“What happened to Belly could have been prevented if better protections, including PPE, had been in place.

“No-one should be put in a position where their working conditions leave them in danger or frightened for their safety. TSSA will do everything we can to honour Belly’s memory and fight for improved health and safety standards across our rail network.”
