London Underground workers strike against pay inequality at Ruislip

LONDON Underground (LU) workers in Ruislip stood side by side against pay inequality on the picket line this morning.

The RMT union, which represents the track maintenance workers, said that the strike turnout at the depot was “100 per cent rock solid.”

The walkout is over a dispute over pay inequality and pay levels which staff say don’t match up with duties they are being asked to perform.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said management has shown little interest in resolving the dispute, and that LU is committed to unnecessary job losses.

He said the union is "angry and frustrated" that its efforts to reach a negotiated settlement have been kicked back at every turn by London Underground.

The escalation of industrial protest, which will also continue over the bank holiday weekend, coincides with a major work and maintenance programme around the Wimbledon area.

Mr Cash added that his union’s representatives remain ready to engage in meaningful discussion.
