RENTERS’ rights campaigners called on activists to help stop the eviction of a mother of three from her home in Newham, east London.
The London Renters’ Union (LRU) is set to meet tomorrow at 7am to block bailiffs from pushing the family out of the property, as they have no other place to go.
The mother of three sons was served a Section 21 “no-fault” eviction notice after living in the home for 15 years, the LRU said, adding that they have complained about the dire living conditions for years, including about rats and mould.
“With no place to go currently, we need to keep her in her home so we can negotiate with the landlord,” the group added.
The LRU said no experience was necessary to join the action and that they would need help throughout the morning.
Section 21 was abolished in May as part of the Labour government’s landmark Renters’ Rights Act.
