Palestinian family forced from home to make way for Israeli road

ISRAELI forces forcibly removed a Palestinian family from their home in the al-Tur district of East Jerusalem today in preparation for its demolition.

Soldiers stormed the Karama family’s home firing sound bombs and were accused of attacking women and children inside.

The family insist that they have received no demolition or eviction order for their home, in which 10 people, including children, were living.

Bulldozers and diggers started tearing down the building after the family were made homeless in bitterly cold weather in an operation supported by the Israeli army and police.

More than 280 Palestinians in al-Tur are threatened with displacement as part of a $250 million (£186m) American Road project, which aims to link illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank to Jerusalem.

Palestinian homes are frequently targeted for destruction to make way for settlements.

Resistance to what has been described as an ethnic cleansing operation in East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah district led to Israel’s brutal bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip last May.

More than 250 Palestinians, including 66 children, were killed and Tel Aviv was accused of war crimes.

Nearly 700,000 Israelis live in 256 settlements across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem that are illegal under international law.
