THE bereaved mother of one of triple killer Valdo Calocane’s victims has welcomed a corporate manslaughter investigation into the mental healthcare trust that treated the paranoid schizophrenic.

Emma Webber said the probe signifies “the beginning of the reckoning” that will send “much-needed shockwaves across our public services.” 

Mr Calocane was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order after he pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of her 19-year-old son Barnaby, his friend Grace O’Malley-Kumar and caretaker Ian Coates, 65, in Nottingham in the early hours of June 13 2023.

Northumbria Police is looking at matters relating to his care and treatment by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust between 2020 until 2022, the trust said.

Mr Calocane was sectioned four times while under the care of trust before being discharged to his GP because he failed to turn up for appointments and the trust’s Early Intervention in Psychosis team had “lost” him, a public inquiry heard.
