THE Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has defended a nurse after she was attacked by a right-wing troll blog following an appearance on BBC Radio Five Live to discuss NHS cuts.
Danielle Tiplady, a staff nurse in London, was interviewed regarding the NHS winter crisis which has seen tens of thousands of operations cancelled and increased pressure on services.
However, the right-wing Guido Fawkes blog attacked Ms Tiplady, branding her a “leading Corbynista” and highlighting her articles for the “communist Morning Star” and NHS activism.
Paul Staines, who runs the website, has described his politics as “Thatcher on drugs” and is frequently abusive towards leftwingers.
RCN London spokesman Bernell Bussue said that “Danielle is a dedicated nurse and NHS campaigner who works tirelessly to provide care for people in London.
“She is well qualified to speak about issues concerning the NHS and should not be attacked for doing so, especially at a time when nursing staff are working as hard as ever to keep an underfunded NHS upright.
“At RCN London we will always support our members to speak openly about the issues affecting their profession and will not remain silent should they be unfairly targeted.”
