LABOUR MP Kim Johnson said the party will not renege on its pledge for railway nationalisation at the RMT young members’ conference today.
The first black MP for Liverpool Riverside said shadow transport minister Louise Haigh is “committed to making this happen.”
She also backed Streatham MP Bell Ribeiro-Addy as a future party leader, adding: “All too often people are being parachuted into safe seats in our party and I think that needs to change.”
The socialist was met with silent grins after asking the audience if any were considering becoming an MP.
She added she was “extremely angry” with party leader Sir Keir Starmer for saying he would not deal with the “Scum newspaper” in Liverpool, yet writing for it on the grounds “we need to engage with the electorate.”
And Ms Johnson said she was “very disappointed” about him banning MPs to stand on picket lines, adding that “we need to be putting clear lines in what our party stands for.”
