WOMEN’S CRICKET: Ireland women can no longer win their Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka after losing the opener in Dublin by seven wickets.

A knock of 39 from Gaby Lewis contributed to what turned out to be a modest total of 145 for six from the hosts.

Harshitha Samarawickrama’s unbeaten 86 was the foundation of Sri Lanka’s reply as the tourists coasted home with 20 balls remaining.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Ryan Lowe has left his role as Preston manager only one match into the 2024-25 season.

Lowe has been North End boss since 2021, leading the Lancashire club to 13th, 12th and 10th-placed finishes during his three campaigns in charge.

Preston lost their Championship opener on Friday night 2-0 at home to Sheffield United and after discussions with the board on Sunday, the 45-year-old has departed the club.

WOMEN’S DARTS: Doncaster’s Beau Greaves and her Dutch rival Noa-Lynn van Leuven claimed a title each on the final day of the PDC Women’s Series double-header in Germany at the weekend.

Van Leuven was the first to strike when she clinched their Event 15 showdown but Greaves rallied for the Event 16 decider, triumphing 5-3 to lift her record title haul to 25.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Tottenham’s highly rated attacking midfielder Mikey Moore has signed his first professional deal.

Spurs announced the day after Moore’s 17th birthday that he had agreed a contract until 2027.

It continues a remarkable rise for Moore, who made his Tottenham debut as a substitute against Manchester City in May to become the youngest player to represent the club in the Premier League.
