VOTERS are backing Andy Burnham but are far from sure about the Labour Party, a poll revealed today.
Those are key snapshot conclusions from an Ipsos survey conducted after Mr Burnham’s return to parliament this week and almost-immediate elevation to premier-in-waiting.
The poll showed that 35 per cent of voters think Mr Burnham will do a good job as prime minister and 24 per cent a bad job.
The numbers are hardly overwhelming, but more positive than they are for Tory leader Kemi Badenoch or Reform boss Nigel Farage, both of whom have far more voters thinking they would do a bad rather than a good job in No 10.
And 42 per cent think Labour is more likely to win the next election with Mr Burnham as leader as against just 7 per cent who felt the same with Sir Keir Starmer in charge.
However, only 29 per cent believe that Labour can provide “strong and stable leadership” with more than 60 per cent holding the opposite view — the figures for the Tories and Reform are not very different.
