Palestinian dies from wounds inflicted by Israeli troops at Gaza border

A PALESTINIAN man died today from a bullet wound suffered during clashes with Israeli forces last week along Gaza’s border fence over the weekend, Palestinian health officials said.

Osama Dueij, 32, was shot in the leg on Saturday when Israeli troops fired on demonstrators at the border, whom they accused of throwing explosives at them.

Israeli gunfire wounded 41 Palestinians, including a 13-year-old boy who was shot in the head, the Hamas-run health ministry said. An Israeli soldier was also critically injured, apparently from a gunshot to the head, and remains in hospital.

Hundreds of Palestinians took part in Saturday’s demonstration organized by Gaza’s Hamas rulers against the Israeli-Egyptian blockade of the enclave and Israel’s decision to halt Qatari aid funds.

Egypt has since tightened the blockade by closing its crossing point.

Israel has also shifted on the Qatari aid, agreeing that it can be distributed by the UN to families in Gaza so long as it has oversight of the recipients.
