AN OPINION poll indicates that self-styled democratic socialist Senator Bernie Sanders would trounce Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election as the Democratic Party candidate.
By coincidence, all polls indicated precisely the same for the 2016 election, when he won the party’s membership vote hands down but was outvoted by so-called “super-delegates.”
These office holders and party insiders preferred Wall Street candidate Hillary Clinton and handed the election to racist reactionary Trump.
The online petition launched by Sanders to shame Amazon boss Jeff Bezos into paying the company’s US employees a living wage, following on from a similar campaign last month directed at Disney chief executive Bob Iger, is probably a contributory factor in the Vermont senator’s ongoing popularity among working people.
Unfortunately, it is likely to confirm in the minds of the super-delegate bureaucracy that their votes should again be cast for Clinton or similar next time round.
