Industrial ‘Bitter blow’ for passport printers as De La Rue says it will not appeal move to France

DE LA RUE workers faced a “bitter blow” today as the company announced that it would not be appealing against the government’s decision to move passport production abroad.

Following his anger over the decision to ship passport production to France, De La Rue boss Martin Sutherland said that the company will “move forward” and refocus on work elsewhere.

Unite national officer Louisa Bull said that printing workers were disappointed with the decision as, “for the last decade, De La Rue has produced UK passports securely and without any problems” and the company had provided decent well-paid jobs in north-east England.

Ms Bull said: “Theresa May is now putting all of that at risk with little thought of the shock waves it will send through the community and local economy.”
