DEATH TOLL: Gaza’s Health Ministry said yesterday that the official Palestinian death toll from Israel’s war on the Palestinians in Gaza has reached 73,001.
This comes as Israel has continued to launch attacks in the enclave despite a fragile ceasefire deal reached in October.
Confirmation came from Zaher al-Waheidi, head of the ministry’s records department, and Hamza Salem from the ministry’s public relations department.
The figures are expected to grow as many Palestinians are still missing and presumed dead.

HOMICIDE: Mexican authorities announced on Saturday that they are investigating the homicide of a mayor in San Miguel Amatitlan, Oaxaca.
Joel Bravo Martinez was gunned down Saturday, weeks after he reported that he feared for his life and requested protection, according to a statement from his party PAN.
The Mexican Security Cabinet said it was working with state authorities to investigate the crime.

EUROPEAN ALIGNMENT: Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney continued his efforts to pivot away from the United States and align with Europe, meeting with Ireland’s Taoiseach Micheal Martin on Saturday ahead of the upcoming G7 summit and saying middle power countries shouldn’t compete for favour with America.
Mr Carney said smaller nations can multiply their strength by partnering with like-minded allies.

LAST RESORT: Hundreds of protesters in Albania on Saturday tore down fences surrounding a luxury development site near Vlora on the country’s Adriatic coast, in a continued demonstration against the construction in an environmentally sensitive area.
Albanians have been protesting for weeks against a planned luxury resort backed by a company linked to Jared Kushner, the son in law of United States President Donald Trump.
