CHINA: Typhoon Noul made landfall early on Sunday, bringing winds and heavy rain to southern China, including Hong Kong, over the weekend.

It prompted the evacuation of hundreds of thousands of people in Guangdong province, with the region placed on high alert.

China’s national weather centre said Noul made landfall along the Huidong county coast in the city of Huizhou in southern Guangdong province. China’s Xinhua News Agency said Noul was the strongest typhoon to make landfall in China so far this year.

NATO: A Canadian woman has been arrested and accused of espionage while working as an intern in the operational headquarters of the Nato military alliance, Belgian authorities said on Saturday.

Belgium’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office launched the investigation after Nato’s security services tipped off Belgium’s military intelligence. Authorities then detained “a Canadian citizen of Chinese origin” on Friday, after raiding the suspect’s home and workplace inside Nato’s vast command centre.

SENEGAL: President Bassirou Diomaye Faye formally launched his own political party on Saturday, cementing a rupture with former ally Ousmane Sonko, head of the ruling Pastef party — and setting up a power struggle during a major debt crisis.

The creation of Faye’s Republican Patriots deepens the split between the two men, who won power together in 2024.

OCCUPIED WEST BANK: Israel’s military said it detained over 70 suspects across the occupied West Bank on Saturday, a day after troops deployed across the territory following violence that left two Israeli soldiers and four Palestinian villagers dead.

Soldiers remained in the village of Tell, in the northern West Bank, where Friday’s clashes were centred.
