DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO: At least 100 people have died from Ebola less than a month after authorities declared an outbreak of the disease in the country’s east.
Out of the 550 cases of the disease confirmed as of Sunday, there have been 101 deaths and 19 recoveries, according to the latest situation report from Congolese authorities on Monday night.
KENYA: former chief justice David Maraga has said he was arrested alongside other activists on Monday while protesting against plans for construction inside Nairobi National Park.
Mr Maraga was later released, having been detained while staging a sit-in on a major road outside the national park’s main gate.
Police have yet to comment on the reason for his arrest.
PAKISTAN: Shops and businesses shut down and public transport halted across Pakistan-administered Kashmir today following a strike call by a recently banned group called the Joint Awami Action Committee.
The call followed clashes in the city of Rawalakot on Sunday between the group’s supporters and security personnel that left seven people dead.
The violence erupted after the Supreme Court of Pakistan-administered Kashmir ruled that 12 legislative seats reserved for Kashmiri refugees living in Pakistan cannot be abolished without a constitutional amendment.
THE HAGUE: International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan has been suspended with immediate effect while an investigation into misconduct allegations continues.
The decision was made by a group within the ICC management oversight body, which has also referred the matter to the court’s 125 member states.
The members will vote on Mr Khan’s future during a special session to be convened “as soon as possible.”
