GERMANY: Lufthansa and a union representing cabin crew reached a pay deal today, concluding the last of several major disputes that have led to recent strikes at Germany’s biggest airline and in the country’s wider aviation sector.

The UFO union said nearly 19,000 cabin crew will get a pay rise, effectively totalling 17.4 per cent in three stages under the three-year deal, plus a one-time payment of €3,000 (around £2,500) per person to offset inflation. Some bonuses also will be increased.

VIETNAM: Real-estate tycoon Truong My Lan was today sentenced to death by a court in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam in the country’s largest financial fraud case ever, Vietnam Net media said.

The chair of the real estate company Van Thinh Phat was charged with fraud amounting to $12.5 billion (around £10 billion).

HUNGARY: The Hungarian government will place new restrictions on the import of Ukrainian produce, the country’s agricultural minister said today.

Istvan Nagy told a news conference that a 2022 European Union decision to allow for duty-free imports from Ukraine had led to “severe oversupply and significantly low prices” in the European agricultural market.

RUSSIA: Special forces killed two people suspected of plotting terror attacks in a shootout in the country’s south on Thursday, the National Anti-Terror Committee said.

The suspects were blockaded on the outskirts of Nalchik, capital of the Kabardino-Balkaria republic, and opened fire on special forces of the Federal Security Service, the committee said.

The committee did not give details of the actions that the suspects were believed to be planning.
