WOMEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Table-topping York Valkyrie lost their 100 per cent record but remain unbeaten in Super League Group One after a 12-12 draw with Leeds moved them three points clear of second-placed St Helens, who have a game in hand. Wigan edged out Warrington 20-12 in the only other Group One game. Group Two league leaders Leigh thumped Bradford 46-10, Salford beat bottom club Castleford 22-10 and Barrow saw off Featherstone 24-10.
WOMEN’S CRICKET: England face Australia in Taunton tomorrow for the final Ashes clash of this summer. The Aussies won Sunday’s 50-over game by just three runs to move into an unassailable two-point series lead and successfully retained the urn. Chasing 283 Nat Sciver-Brunt’s unbeaten 111 from 99 balls was not quite enough to bring England home as the match went down to the very last ball.
CYCLING: Only four of the seven British riders who started the Tour de France will begin the time trial in Passy tomorrow. Adam Yates currently sits fourth, 5 minutes 40 seconds behind race leader Jonas Vingegaard, while his twin brother Simon is eighth, Tom Pidcock 12th and Fred Wright 109th, over five and a half hours back. Ben Turner pulled out due to illness and James Shaw abandoned after a crash on stage 14.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: League of Ireland champions Shamrock Rovers are in Iceland this evening attempting to overturn a one goal deficit against Breidablik in the second leg of their Champions League first qualifying round tie. Larne, the north of Ireland’s representatives, are also 1-0 adrift going into Wednesday’s game with HJK Helsinki. Cymru Premier champions The New Saints host Swedish champions BK Hacken tomorrow night, 3-1 down form the first leg.
