Nicaraguans appeal for international solidarity and end to US interference
Nicaragua supporters protest outside of the Organization of the American States asking to free political prisioners and stop the government's human rights violations against critics, during a rally in Washington

NICARAGUANS called for international solidarity today after documents leaked from the US embassy in Managua revealed a plot to overthrow the democratically elected government.

According to the papers, Washington has been planning an orchestrated transition of government in the Central American country over the next two years.

It is the latest bid by the US to oust the Sandinista government headed by President Daniel Ortega which it claims is a threat to its regional interests.
