AN IRANIAN scientist that Israel has alleged led the Islamic Republic’s military nuclear programme until its disbanding in the early 2000s was killed yesterday in a suspected targeted attack that saw gunmen use explosives and machine gun fire.

Iran’s Foreign Minister said the killing of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh bore “serious indications” of an Israeli role, but did not elaborate.

Israel declined to immediately comment, though Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once called out Mr Fakhrizadeh in a news conference saying: “Remember that name.”
