MEN’S BOXING: Jeamie Tshikeva (TKV) beat 2020 Olympic bronze medallist Frazer Clarke by a split points decision after an often laboured and attritional brawl to win the vacant British heavyweight title in Derby on Saturday night.

Tshikeva improves his record to nine wins from 11 bouts.

On the undercard bantamweight Francesca Hennessy produced a dominant performance in her debut 10-round contest to out-point Czechia’s Fabiana Bytyqi.

CURLING: Scotland’s women took silver at the European Curling championships after losing 7-5 to Sweden in Saturday’s final at the Lohja rink in Finland.

The Scots had beaten defending champions Switzerland in their semi-final.

Sweden completed a tournament double with their men’s team beating Switzerland 5-4 for the gold with the Scottish men picking up bronze after easing past Italy 9-3 in their third/fourth place match.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Danilo’s second-half header was enough to earn Flamengo a 1-0 win over Palmeiras in Saturday night’s Copa Libertadores final at Lima’s Monumental stadium.

A Brazilian club has won South America’s equivalent to the Champions League for the last seven seasons and this was the fifth all-Brazilian final since 2020.

Flamengo have now won the title four times, three behind Argentinian record-holders Independiente.

HORSE RACING: Amateur jockey Patrick Mullins rode his 900th winner after partnering favourite Jimmy Du Seuil to victory in the first race at Fairyhouse on Saturday.

County Carlow-born Mullins, who also works as an assistant trainer with his father Willie at Closutton, rode this year’s Grand National winner Nick Rockett.

He has won the National Hunt Challenge Cup four times and been Irish amateur champion on 15 occasions.
