MEN’S CRICKET: Virat Kohli hit an unbeaten 75 as Bengaluru beat Gujarat by five wickets with two overs to spare to win their second consecutive Indian Premier League title in Ahmedabad on Sunday. Rajasthan’s 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi won the orange cap as the competition’s leading run-scorer and also had the highest strike rate, while Gujarat’s South African paceman Kagiso Rabada took the most wickets.
HORSE RACING: Four-time world’s best jockey Ryan Moore steered Constitution River to a three-quarter length win in Sunday afternoon’s Group One Prix du Jockey Club race at Chantilly. Trainer Aidan O’Brien had the first three horses home bagging almost £1.25 million in prize money. Christophe Soumillon and Hawk Mountain claimed second with Wayne Lordan partnering 36/1 shot Montreal into third.
NETBALL: Manchester Thunder sealed the regular season Super League title after Sophie Fawns scored with the last shot of the game to earn them a 68-67 win over Loughborough Lightning. Defending champions London Pulse finished as runners-up thanks to a 62-51 victory at Nottingham Forest. Cardiff Dragons won 57-50 at London Mavericks and Leeds finished bottom of the table after going down 67-43 at home to Birmingham.
MEN’S CYCLING: Jonas Vingegaard won five stages and took the general classification at the Giro d’Italia to become only the eighth rider to win all three grand tours. He finished almost five-and-a-half minutes ahead of second-placed Felix Gall with Jai Hindley a further minute back in third. Paul Magnier won the points competition, Giulio Ciccone was king of the mountains and Eulalio Afonso was the leading young rider.
