MEN’S BASKETBALL: Jalen Brunson top-scored with 30 points as the New York Knicks produced a late surge to win 105-95 at San Antonio in this morning’s first game of the best-of-seven NBA Finals. Victor Wembanyama netted 26 points and had 12 rebounds for San Antonio. The second game of the final tips off in San Antonio early on Saturday with the Knicks looking to extend their 12-match unbeaten run.

MEN’S BOXING: New Malden’s former super-middleweight world champion Lerrone Richards fights Venezuelan Albert Ramirez for the interim light-heavyweight title late tonight in Montreal. 33-year-old Richards has won 19 of his 20 professional bouts while Ramirez is unbeaten in 22, winning 19 by knockout. The fight, originally scheduled for February, was postponed when Ramirez was hospitalised with appendicitis.

HORSE RACING: Nine fillies have been declared for tomorrow afternoon’s 248th running of the Oaks after pre-race favourite Precise was withdrawn due to recent rain at the Epsom Downs course. Ryan Moore will ride new market leader Amelia Earhart, one of three Aidan O’Brien horses in the race, while Dylan Browne McMonagle will partner Thundering On as she makes her debut in British racing after winning Ireland’s Salsabil Stakes in April.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: England face current champions Spain in Mallorca tonight for a crucial World Cup qualifier. If the Lionesses avoid defeat they will secure a spot at next year’s finals in Brazil. England beat Spain 1-0 in April’s reverse fixture at Wembley and have won all four of their group matches. Elsewhere tonight Wales, who sit joint-top of Group B1, visit Macedonia and Group B4 table-toppers Scotland play Israel.
