A PALESTINIAN baby was killed at the weekend when Israel troops fired on his parents’ car in the occupied West Bank.
One bullet struck the seven-month-old boy in the face while others wounded his parents, according to the Palestinian Authority’s Health Ministry.
The Israeli military said that soldiers had shot at a vehicle they believed was accelerating towards them near Hebron.
The baby’s father, Bethlehem University lecturer Fahd Abu Haikal, said that a bullet had struck the windscreen on Friday evening before piercing his right hand and hitting his son and wife in the back seat.
The bullet passed through Sam Fahd Abu Haikal’s face.
“He was the entire world,” Mr Haikal said of the boy, who turned seven months on Friday.
The mother was in a critical condition, with shrapnel close to her heart.

In central Israel, a Palestinian citizen of Israel went on a shooting spree in several towns yesterday, killing one person and wounding five others before being shot dead by police.
The Magen David Adom rescue service said it had received the first reports of a shooting at a petrol station near the town of Kokhav Yai, on the Israeli side of the boundary with the West Bank, at about 10.30am. Several other shootings were reported soon afterwards, including one inside the West Bank.
Police later arrested a second person involved in the attack. The man attempted to stab police with a glass bottle during the arrest, but there were no injuries, officers said.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the attacker had stayed in his car while shooting, allowing him to reach several locations within minutes.
On Saturday, an Israeli strike in Gaza City killed at least seven people, including two women, a girl and her father, all from the same family, according to Shifa Hospital. Director Mohamed Abu Selmiya said that a tent near the Rimal school had been struck.
