THE eldest son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has been sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted of rape.
Marius Borg Hoiby, 29, was found guilty today of two of the four rape charges he faced but acquitted of the other two.
He was also convicted of assault and abuse in close relationships, and ordered to pay compensation to the victims.
Mr Hoiby had been charged with sexually assaulting four women who were asleep or otherwise unable to resist between 2018 and 2024. He denied the rape allegations but admitted to several lesser offences, including assault and drug-related crimes.
The court heard that one victim was either incapacitated or asleep when she was raped after a party in Oslo in March 2024, following consensual sex between the pair. Key evidence included videos that Mr Hoiby filmed at the time.
The woman told the court in February that she had been asleep and “would never have allowed it to happen.” The court agreed that she had been unable to resist.
Prosecutors had asked Oslo District Court to sentence Mr Hoiby to seven years and seven months.
Defence lawyers argued for his acquittal of the rape allegations and said he should receive no more than 18 months for the offences he admitted.
Mr Hoiby did not appear in court for health reasons, watching the verdict via video link from prison. He has the option of appealing against the sentence.
The six-week trial ended in March following testimony from multiple accusers and the presentation of evidence including messages, images and videos from Mr Hoiby’s phone.
