Snippets of news from the sporting world with Jamie J

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Former Arsenal, Juventus and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey has secured his first permanent manager’s role at Oxford United. Ramsey scored 40 Premier League goals for the Gunners in an 11-year spell at the club, won 86 caps for Wales, represented Great Britain at the London Olympics and retired aged 35. Oxford, who were relegated to League One last season, sacked previous manager Matt Bloomfield five days ago.

MEN’S GOLF: The PGA Tour will introduce annual promotion and relegation into world golf from the start of the 2028 season. Under the new proposals announced by Tiger Woods on Tuesday, at least the top 90 players will retain their status in golf’s top tier of competitions each year. The rest will either be replaced by players from “challenger” tournaments or have to take part in play-off and “last chance” competitions.

MEN’S CRICKET: The West Indies begin a two-match World Test Championship (WTC) series against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua today. The Windies currently sit bottom of the WTC without a win, suffering seven losses in eight games, while the Sri Lankans have a win and draw from their two games against Bangladesh. Sri Lanka are currently ranked as the world’s sixth-best Test team, three places above the West Indies.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Warrington can move level on points with Super League table-toppers Leeds if they win their game in hand against the Catalans this evening. Leeds, who eased to a 34-6 victory at Warrington last week, are not in action until tomorrow night when they host third-placed defending champions Hull KR at Headingley. The Humbersiders will be missing winger Joe Burgess due to a shoulder injury.
