HOMELESSNESS charity Social Bite has announced the reopening of its flagship Edinburgh village.
The charity, which boasts of backing from Hollywood actor George Clooney and comedian Rob Brydon, established a village in Granton in 2018, placing 10 modular homes on derelict land as an alternative to traditional forms of temporary accommodation for homeless people.
Now, after a relocation to a new, greener site overlooking the Firth of Forth five minutes from the original site, that number will be boosted to 16.
Speaking after last month’s opening of a similar project in partnership with South Lanarkshire Council and The Salvation Army in Rutherglen, Social Bite founder Josh Littlejohn said: “The village model is about more than putting a roof over people’s heads — it’s about building a beautiful, supportive community that restores hope and dignity.
“Our new Granton Waterfront Village is a real flagship for this model, and I think it sets an example of how homelessness accommodation can be done differently.
“Thanks so much to all of the brilliant partners who helped bring the project to life.”
