FBU demands Burnham takes ‘fundamental action’ to tackle effects of climate change
Firefighters tackle a wildfire on Winter Hill near Bolton, June 2018

ANDY Burnham will need to take “fundamental action” to deal with the effects of climate change as prime minister, the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) warned today.

Commenting after a major blaze killed at least four Britons in Spain, FBU general secretary Steve Wright said: “This is a tragic reality check on the impact of climate change and the need to invest in public safety measures now.

“Firefighters have been on the front line of wildfires triggered by climate change and have been warning of their impact for years.

“As a new prime minister prepares to enter Downing Street, we once again call on the government to give this issue the priority it demands.

“Climate change is here, and there needs to be fundamental action to deal with its consequences. “Stop cutting the fire and rescue service and give us the investment and resources we need to tackle the devastating consequences of the climate crisis.”
