Glasner aware there’s ‘no button to press’ to guarantee success at Forest
Then Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner speaks to the media in Leipzig, ahead of the Uefa Conference League Final, May 26, 2026

OLIVER GLASNER knows there is “no button to press” which will make Nottingham Forest competitive in the Premier League, but feels the foundations are in place to make a solid start.

Former Crystal Palace boss Glasner succeeded Vitor Pereira at the City Ground earlier this month and has been settling into his new surroundings after a first day with the squad ahead of a return to full pre-season training.

The 51-year-old Austrian guided Palace to success in both the 2025 FA Cup and then Conference League, securing back-to-back major trophies for the south London club ahead of his departure at the end of the last campaign.

Glasner, who also took Eintracht Frankfurt to the 2021-22 Europa League title, is confident he can continue his proven track record with Forest looking to improve on a 16th-placed finish in the Premier League and rebuild following the British-record sale of England midfielder Elliot Anderson to Manchester City.

“For me it is very important that it is exciting and challenging. I really believe that us all together — the staff, the players, the fans, the leadership of the club — we can be really competitive in the Premier League which makes me excited,” Glasner said in an interview with Forest TV.

“There is no button to press that automatically makes it happen. It is a daily thing that will take progress over the coming weeks, which is what we have started.

“The people are what is most important and that is what gives me a lot of confidence for this project. I have met great people — you can have the best stadium, the best training ground, but if you don’t have the right people, it doesn’t work.

“Now we have to find the way that is best to work together. It is not just work for me, it is my life.”

Glasner has no qualms about taking on the demands of Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis — who went through four managers last season, with Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche all being dismissed before Pereira was brought in during February.

“This is a traditional club with a fantastic fanbase and a very ambitious owner that wants to take a step forward,” Glasner said.

“The squad is very interesting as well, so those were the main reasons for me wanting to join Nottingham Forest.

“The club is already on a good run since promotion a few years ago and playing in the semi-final of the Europa League [last season]. It is important now to get some consistency and battle regularly for the top half of the league.

“We know how competitive the Premier League is — it is one thing to talk about it, but it is something else to deliver but that is what we will start on now.

“We will create a way of playing, an identity and how we want to deal with each other which I think is important for the spirit and togetherness in the club and with the fans.”
