Men's Football Germany lose to Mexico in shock result

WORLD cup holders Germany suffered a shock defeat to Mexico yesterday.

Their bid to become the first nation to successfully retain the coveted trophy got off to a terrible start, being unable to overcome Hirving Lozano’s first-half goal.

The holders struggled to get to the grips with the Mexicans’ counter-attacks and had El Tri been more clinical, they could have had this game dead and buried well before the referee blew the final whistle.

It was Germany’s first opening match World Cup defeat since 1982, when they lost to Algeria 2-1.
