THOUSANDS marched at Glasgow’s annual Pride event on Saturday, with the popular “Lesbians and Gays Support Cuba” banner displayed with signatures from supporters. 

Marcher Angus Reid described the pleasure of carrying the banner through a city twinned with Havana, which hosts a Cuban film festival, and where the message was recognised by the thousands lining the streets for the parade.

“We want to make people aware of Cuba’s LGBTQ revolution,” he said.

“When the majority vote for equality as the Cubans did in 2022, then discrimination – homophobic, transphobic, misogynist – is proven to be a minority prejudice. 

“It’s a joyful message to bring to the LGBTQ community and the city, all pop whom understand the threat Cuba faces today.”

A protest event, No Pride in Genocide, took place alongside the march, in support of Palestine and opposition to the corporate character of the march.

“We met a lot of comrades there,” Mr Reid added.
