Palestine supporters in Bristol lay siege to arms company providing Israel with weapons

MORE than 100 Palestine supporters have laid siege to an arms company providing Israel with weapons being used to attack Gaza.

Israeli-owned Elbit Systems supplies Israel with 85 per cent of the military drones being used to attack Gaza and 85 per cent of the Israeli Defence Force’s land-based military equipment.

The weapons are produced at four Elbit factories in Britain. The company also has its headquarters offices in Bristol.

Activists mounted “peace pickets” today at Elbit’s Bristol headquarters and its factory at Aztec West in Bristol.

The action was organised by Cymru Peace Coalition.

An Elbit factory in Leicester is also under siege.

Retired paramedic RL Evans, from Swansea, who joined the picket, said: “Having worked as an emergency nurse paramedic in Gaza and been shot at while working on critically injured women and children, I was horrified to learn the bullets and bombs were from Britain. My country.”

Coalition member Families for Ceasefire Monmouthshire said: “The number of children killed in Gaza now outstrips the entire school age population of Monmouthshire.

“It is incomprehensible that the weapons being made right here on our doorstep are being used in this mass slaughter.

“Families for a Ceasefire represent the voice of families in Monmouthshire who want to see an immediate end to this a war on children and are calling for a permanent ceasefire now.”

The campaigners are also targeting Sedgemoor District Council which owns the site of the Bristol factory. They are calling for Elbit to be evicted.

Cymru Peace Coalition said: “We urge everyone to take action now — hundreds of civilian lives are taken every day by the Israeli regime, thousands have been taken through this decade-long apartheid.”
