Public fast for Gaza planned on Yom Kippur

A GRASSROOTS group of Jewish women are organising a public fast for Gaza on Yom Kippur next month.

Jewish Peaceniks UK are inviting a hundred Jews to join them in observing the 25-hour fast on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, which is devoted to atonement and seeking forgiveness.

The fast will begin at sunset, 6.24pm on Wednesday October 1, and end at 7.25pm on Thursday October 2. The location will be in Westminster and published closer to the date.

“We think it’s more important than ever for Jews who are opposed to Israel’s actions and to zionism to express horror and outrage at the starvation of the Gazan population,” a post promoting the event on Facebook said.

Participants will sit in a line dressed in black in front of a hundred lighted yahrzeit candles and can attend in two-and-a-half-hour stints on the first day. All are requested to join for the beginning and end stages.
