WHEN the great tenor saxophonist David S Ware died in late 2012, his longtime bass partner William Parker said of him that “he was someone who can play music that will cause human revolution through means of the soul and the spirit.”
Ware was born in Plainfield, New Jersey, in 1949 and began playing saxophone when he was nine, and during his mid-teens met and was mentored by Sonny Rollins, the powerhouse tenorist of the previous generation.
